A Banner Raised Against the Darkness

“The ancient seat of Dreibach, half-swallowed by mist and ivy, wherein secrets sleep beneath stone, and watchful crows attend the battlements still.”

☙ An Introduction to the Order of Vulgarian Knights ❧

“Not for conquest, nor coin, nor crown—but for wisdom, wonder, and the warding of that which would unmake them both.”

In an age much troubled by noise and haste—where meaning oft dissolves in a torrent of passing trifles—there has arisen, once more, a gathering of purpose.

It is no common society. It holds no earthly charter, nor does it kneel to any prince. Rather, it marches beneath a black chevron on white field, and names itself The Order of Vulgarian Knights.

Founded in both spirit and solemn sport, the Order is not a lark but a lamp. It burns to illuminate forgotten stories, neglected arts, and curious camaraderie. To that end, it embraces the pursuits of speculative fiction, pulp adventure, gothic horror, vintage mystery, and brave absurdity alike—so long as the work bears imagination, and the participant bears goodwill.

Let it be known: this is not a retreat from the world, but a bulwark within it. We do not gatekeep. We do not scorn. We do not render verdicts on the taste of others. Rather, we welcome all those who share our delight in the arcane, the eerie, the gallant, and the strange.

The Order operates through four great Commanderies, each a pillar of knightly participation:

  • The Chancellery, for those who keep the ledgers and levers turning.
  • The Collegium, for minds that thirst for lore, letters, and creation.
  • The Black Chevron, for hands that strive, serve, and challenge.
  • The Veiled Hand, for souls who study subtlety, story, and the unseen.

Our ranks are earned through deed, not decree. From Initiate to Knight to Preceptor, each advancement is the echo of active engagement—a record not of who one claims to be, but what one has given to the fellowship.

We hold debates. We hold dice. We hold dominoes and dramas and duties alike. We screen films not for idle amusement, but for reflection and camaraderie. We write, we craft, we serve. And above all, we listen.

For if this be an age of noise and haste, then let the Order be an enclave of attention—where every tale is weighed, every effort remembered, and every member cherished as a keeper of the flame.

So take up your chevron. Gird your inkpot. Ready your strange tales and silver dice. The banner is raised, the call resounds, and the night grows darker by the hour.

We are the Order of Vulgarian Knights.
And we ride toward the moonlight.
