☙ A Regiment Formed in Iron, Sworn in Ash ❧
“The Chevron does not point upward for decoration. It rises because they do.”
Among the many arms of the Order of Vulgarian Knights, few are so storied—or so solemn in bearing—as the Vulgarian Fusiliers: a regiment of disciplined defenders who stand at the vanguard of the Commandery of the Black Chevron.
They are not a mercenary company. They are not militia. They are the professional soldiery of the Order, called upon not merely for contests of might, but for acts of civic courage, ritual defense, and public service.
✠ A Regiment Forged in Crisis
The origins of the Fusiliers lie in the Years of Black Smoke—a period of encroaching dread in the late 17th century, when the roads from Buchenhain to Lembergrau were thick with disappearances, livestock mutilations, and unexplainable phenomena.
When neither crown nor conclave acted, the Order did. Knights of the Black Chevron banded together under a common oath, adopting the uniform and firearm of the era’s most disciplined troops: the fusil-bearing infantry.
Thus was born the Regiment of the Vulgarian Fusiliers—so named for their long-barreled firelocks, but remembered for their steel discipline and spectral vigilance.
✠ Discipline Over Bravado
Unlike gallant crusaders or blustering heroes, the Fusiliers are known for tactical restraint, drilled coordination, and composure in the face of abomination. It is said that a Fusilier will not speak three words more than needed—and will only raise their voice when raising their rifle.
Their insignia—two crossed swords on a field Gules, blades Argent, hilts Or—is often worn upon their greatcoats and haversacks. Their motto: “Not in Fury, but in Firelock.”
They are the silent vanguard of charity marches, the organizers of physical contests, the first to carry aid to disaster zones, and—when necessary—the final line between the world and what should never cross into it.
✠ Standing Within the Black Chevron
Though the Fusiliers are the most visible martial arm, they are but one component of the Commandery of the Black Chevron, whose purview includes:
- Acts of community service
- Charity miles and public fitness
- Competitive gaming, virtual and otherwise
- Ritual dueling, both symbolic and actual
- Field deployment for sacred or celebratory occasions
The Chevron rises not to glorify violence, but to represent the will to act—when action is hard, and silence seductive.
✠ Who Rides Among Them?
You need not bear arms to walk among the Fusiliers.
You may serve through endurance.
You may serve through vigilance.
You may serve through grit, sweat, and the simple, sacred act of showing up where others would not.
The Black Chevron commands respect not for what it takes, but for what it gives—in service, in sacrifice, in steadfastness.
And the Fusiliers, its crimson-clad spearhead, march not for glory…
…but because someone must.
