Of Many Ships

The Lineage of the Kaga

“A ship is more than a hull and registry. It is a dream in motion, crewed by memory.”

Not all vessels that voyage through fandom are built of steel and circuitry. Some are conjured from story and sustained upon the steadfast breath of fellowship. So it is with the many incarnations of that gallant and enduring starship known as the USS Kaga.

Named first for a storied vessel of the Imperial Japanese Navy, and later reborn within the mythos of Starfleet as a noble light cruiser, Kaga has flown beneath sundry banners these many years. Each commission, each registry, each uniformed endeavor has served one purpose above all: to furnish our members—particularly those dwelling in the isles of Japan—with a noble conveyance into the greater galactic fellowship of fans, while remaining anchored in their own sovereign imagination.

The banner was first hoisted beneath the sigil of the International Federation of Trekkers:

  • USS Kaga / NFC-2817
The Federation / International Federation of Trekkers
    Ishikawa, Japan Chapter

Thereafter, she donned new livery and sailed anew:

  • USS Kaga / NCC-72581
    Starfleet Command – Quadrant 2
    Ishikawa, Japan Chapter

In more recent times, she stands proudly commissioned as:

  • USS Kaga / NCC-1590
    STARFLEET International
    Kaga, Ishikawa Chapter
▸ Home to the 881st Marine Strike Group “Demons”, 8th STARFLEET Marine Brigade

Nor is Kaga now without company. A sister facility joins her vigil among the stars:

  • Station Ninomiya / SFR-1601
    STARFLEET International
    Chikuma, Nagano Chapter
▸ Home to the 666th Marine Strike Group “Deth Bunnies”, 8th STARFLEET Marine Brigade

These are not mere names inked upon rosters, nor husks of bureaucracy adrift in fandom’s sea. They are hearths of community, bastions of narrative continuity, and welcoming harbors for those who would explore the quadrant of imagination in their own time and manner—be they clad in regalia or robed in plain fellowship.

The Kaga, in all her incarnations, has ever been more than a ship. She is a standard raised aloft—in service to camaraderie, to inclusion, and to the sovereign right of every player to take their place upon the bridge.

And lo, in every registry, she sails still.
